Fast to "Protect the Home Planet"

In New York Times' July 22 paper, I read an article about NASA changing its mission statement that it used from 2002 until this year. It read, “To understand and protect our home planet; to explore the universe and search for life; to inspire the next generation of explorers ... as only NASA can.” The phrase, “to understand and protect our home planet” has been deleted. Now the agency’s mission is “to pioneer the future in space exploration, scientific discovery and aeronautics research.”

Since NASA was founded in 1958, the mission statement has reflected our need to understand the Earth. The first mission statement read, “The expansion of human knowledge of the earth and of phenomena in the atmosphere and space.”

What happened to “understand and protect our home planet?” According to the article, George Bush wanted it removed because he wants NASA to focus their attention on human spaceflight to the Moon and Mars.

Without the part in the mission about protecting Planet Earth, scientists say, “ there will be far less incentive to pursue projects to improve understanding of terrestrial problems like climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions.”

The Landsat satellite launched by NASA in 1972 has been used to track the Earth’s atmospheric climate changes. These findings have caused much political debate over “environmental policy and spending” according to W. Henry Lambright, who teaches public administration and political science at Syracuse University.

In the New York Times article by Andrew C. Revkin, he writes, “The shift in language echoes a shift in the agency’s budgets toward space projects and away from earth missions, a shift that began in 2004, the year Mr. Bush announced his vision of human missions to the Moon and beyond.”

The foolery of George Bush is astounding! We need NASA monitoring and spotlighting what is happening to our atmosphere. What does W. think we are going to find on the Moon or Mars, an atmosphere that can sustain life so that we can forget about the atmosphere on the home planet? I’m fasting to retype into the mission statement of NASA, “to understand and protect our home planet.”

If you love this planet, then join us on the Troops Home Fast Now! There are a number of different kinds of fasts. You can choose the one which is best for you. A good book to read about this is: Juice Fasting & Detoxification by Steve Meyerowitz. Don’t let George Bush get away with planetary murder. Fast for the planet! For Gaia!

Earth Flag VS the American Flag

Troops Home Fast Day 22

No one needs to desecrate the American flag because it has been desecrated by the lies and injustices our so-called leaders have committed through the centuries. Maybe some Americans think that the flag covers up the weapons of mass destruction that they produce and sell throughout the world all the while pretending to be peace makers in places like Iraq. Maybe they think that waving the flag in front of your faces blinds us to see the social inequalities and hypocrisies of actions like what recently happened when republican senators voted against raising the minimum wage to 7.25 an hour while voting yes to increase their own wages to every five years to total $28, 500. As Gandhi said, “poverty is the worst kind of violence.” The American Flag represents a killing machine where most of US tax money goes into the military budget used to dominate the rest of the world with its nuclear terrorism.

It is our duty as citizens of the world to work to replace symbols of oppression such as the American Flag with symbols of truth like the Earth Flag. I pledge my alliance to the whole Earth, never to a killer nation-state. To nationalists the American flag represents their “civic religion.” For me the Earth Flag represents the Gaia Religion, a philosophy of whole systems design that feeds the world while providing universal education to all. It is a religion that builds ecological cities for the poor and eventually eliminates the concept of poverty altogether. The Earth is held hostage to the American Flag. It is time to liberate the planet and wave the flag that symbolizes our cosmic truth. We were born planetary citizens who share the air, water, and earth with all the other creatures of the world.

Desecration of the American Flag

Omnicide or Planetary Salvation?

Why we need a Lovolution.

What I am learning from the Troops Home Fast is that we are vessels of life. We were not born to be consumers, but to be spiritual travelers on the road to planetary salvation. In America, life is a shopping mall. The message you receive from the culture is that you were born to shop. If you don’t have money to shop, then you are a social misfit. Many Americans consume to the point of gluttony. Gluttony is one of those seven deathly sins, so America—filled with gluttonous souls-- has become the place of the living dead.

The world spends around $1 trillion dollars on weapons, personnel and military equipment per year. $300 billion of this is spent by the United States. With one week of the global military spending of $20 billion dollars we could put an end to all starvation. Dwight D. Eisenhower said, "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed."

The problem of global starvation could be solved if we were ruled by the politics of Lovolution. As vessels of love, it is our duty to become part of the Lovolution, to wake up the living dead to the fact that the U.S. defense budget is killing us, directly through things like depleted uranium (DU) poisoning and indirectly by allowing the people throughout the planet to starve because governments like the United States manufacture and sell weapons rather than feed the people organic, nutritious foods.

The US military is spreading DU, U-238, the ultimate dirty radioactive weapons material used in bombs and bullets. On impact, it explodes into microscopically fine “nano-particles” which are easily inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Its half-life is 4,468 billion years. During the first Gulf War I, the US dropped 300 tons of it on Iraq resulting in vets coming back with Gulf War Syndrome. During the Gulf War II, the US has dropped 1,700 tons on population centers in Iraq.

In Robert C. Koehler’s article “Spreading Cancer: Depleted Uranium Turns Bush’s Lies into High-Tech Horror,” he writes, “Remember shock and awe? We were pounding Baghdad, in those triumphant early days, with low-grade nuclear weapons, raining down cancer, neurological disorders, birth defects and much, much more on the people we claimed to be liberating. We weren’t spreading democracy, we were altering the human genome.”

He continues, “As we “protected ourselves,” in the words of the president, from Iraq’s non-existent weapons of mass destruction, we opened our own arsenal of WMD on them, contaminating the country’s soil and polluting its air — indeed, unleashing a nuclear dust into the troposphere and contaminating the whole world.”

Since we live on a borderless Earth and the winds of the world are not nationalistic, DU, the deadly contagion spreads around the planet including the United States. Bush has become a planet-destroyer. He is an omnicidal maniac and must be stopped!

It is a moral crime that Americans have such gluttonous lifestyles while people live without their basic human needs being met as DU rains down on them. Where is the love? Where is the caring about other people besides your self and your family? Where is the love for the planet and the health of humanity?

Fast for Lovolution! Please, Fast for a Paradigm Shift!

Glossary:

Omnicide is the killing of everything, often through nuclear war. It may also be used as a general term for industrial pollution.
